10. Schubert- Ave Maria Schubert reaches the sublime with daring simplicity! The vocal lines and orchestration are certainly not complex yet they gracefully  contour round a whole range of emotions with almost unbearable poignancy. The soprano coming in half way through the piece perfectly punctuates the work, repeating a heart stopping melody that will take you into another dimension. 9. Humperdink- Evening Prayer (from Hansel and Gretel) A mezzo and a soprano continually weave over each other to produce some astonishing music! The vocal lines are highly polished sweeps of sheer beauty, the fluttering timbre and tenderness give warmth and stillness to a dark cold night. The singing is so unhurried and beautiful it could literally take your breath away. Pure gold. 8.
